Fern is designed to respect your privacy and minimise data collection.
Data Processing
Fern includes optional AI-powered features that help generate reflections or insights based on your journal entries.
When you use these features, the text you select is securely transmitted to the OpenAI API for processing. This data is used only to generate the requested response and is not used by Fern for analytics, advertising, or tracking purposes.
Data Storage
Journal entries are stored locally on your device. If iCloud sync is enabled, entries are stored in your personal iCloud account under your Apple ID.
Fern does not store journal content on its own servers.
Third-Party Services
Fern uses the OpenAI API to provide AI-powered features. Data sent to OpenAI is processed according to OpenAI’s privacy policy and is not used for advertising or tracking.
Fern does not use third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
Data Sharing
Fern does not sell or share user data.
