Overview
Fern is designed to respect your privacy and minimise data collection.
Data Processing
Fern includes optional AI-powered features that help generate reflections or insights based on your journal entries.
When you use AI features, selected text is securely transmitted to an AI service without identifying information and is not used to identify you. This data is used only to generate the requested response and is not used by Fern for analytics, advertising, or tracking purposes.
Data Storage
Your journal content is stored locally on your device. We do not access, read or store your journal entries on our servers. If you export your data, your entries are only stored in locations you choose.
Fern does not store journal content on its own servers.
Third-Party Services
Fern uses the OpenAI API to provide AI-powered features. Data sent to OpenAI is processed according to [OpenAI’s privacy policy] (https://openai.com/en-GB/policies/row-privacy-policy/) and is not used for advertising or tracking.
Fern does not use advertising SDKs or cross-app tracking.
Anonymous Usage Analytics
We may collect anonymous, aggregate data (such as app opens and feature usage) to understand how the app is used and to improve it. This data is never linked to you and does not include journal content.
Crash and error reporting
We use a third-party crash reporting service (Sentry) to identify and fix bugs. Error reports may include technical information about your device and app version, but never include journal content.
Data Sharing
Fern does not sell or share user data.
